After work I went to order the cake. As I’ve written about it before, I am just gonna repost entry from the other diary.
older entryyTonight I went to order birthday cake... for my own birthday...
In our countries "the birthday person" treats everyone to meal, sweets etc, but in Japan it's the other way around. That person gets treated by friends and family and especially to birthday cake.
When the lady at backery asked me what to write on the cake, like Happy Birthday dear bla-bla.
I said that i do not want anything written on it as it is my own birthday cake. Birthday lady was really surprized and probably thought that I am a poor lonely foreigner that has no friends and family who can buy me a cake... And as the result I ended up going home with two small cakes)))this is one of them, the other one I has given to the girl from work
You might know that backery is expenssive in Japan, so it was really nice of her. I understand that she has given me cakes that she couldn't sell today and definately is not gonna sell those tomorrow and she would've thrown them away/eaten herself/brought back to her family/no idea what other option, but she decided to give those cakes to me... and I think it was really nice of her!
actually I must admit that I get some extra treatment quite often lately - free side dishes, sweets in cafes; some special offers for free kimono and tea ceremony classes etc, so I shouldn't complain and I am not.... I am really grateful to everyone who treats me nicely... it's just that I guess I am always moody when my birthday is coming up... and especially this year when I am away from those very few people who give a damn about me...
